Create Pattern Redactions
To create a pattern redaction to automatically redact privacy information:
- In
Redaction view, click
.
- Clear the check box of any patterns you do not want to redact.

By default, the following items are selected:
- Phone numbers finds all USA style phone number representations, both 7 and 10 digit.
- SSN finds representations of US Social Security number patterns, such as 123-45-6789. This macro finds 9-digit strings, with or without hyphens, if the string is prefixed with any of the following (upper or lower case):
- ssn:
- social security number:
- social security #:
- social security:
- social security
- Drivers License redacts Driver License: xxxxx
- Credit cards finds and redacts instances of Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express credit card numbers.
Note: Although you can select specific credit card patterns for redaction, these options will also redact other types of cards with identical patterns if they exist in the same document, e.g., Diner Card numbers will be redacted when you redact Discover cards and Switch/Solo numbers will be redacted when you redact Visa/Mastercard credit card numbers.
- To specify a redaction reason for each selected pattern, activate the
Show reasons check box.
In the Reason column, click
for each selected pattern and then select the desired reason.
- Click
Redact to apply the redactions.
A dialog box displays, letting you know whether any patterns were found and redacted. Click More details to see what specific patterns were found. Click
to close the details dialog box.
- Click Close to exit the Redact Pattern dialog box.
The patterns are
automatically redacted according to your settings.
After applying pattern redactions, search for the redactions and verify they are applied correctly.
