Alternative conversion methods are used for certain file types, as described below.
- Native conversion
- Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint native files are converted using the print to PDF functionality of their native applications.
- Chat XML conversion
- Chat XML conversion is used for chat formats.
- Conversion to XDL
- Native PDF, plain text, some vector image formats, and any raster image formats are converted directly into XDL.
- Conversion using Oracle Outside In
- Any document type that is not already a PDF and which cannot be converted to PDF using native conversion or chat XML conversion is converted using Oracle Outside In.
Conversion for viewing takes place for these documents the same as for others, depending on which view is opened in the document viewer or which conversion reason is selected for bulk conversion. The difference is that conversion for viewing is based off of the alternative conversion output.
