Email Threads with End of Branch Emails
Email threads are running email communications with succeeding replies or forwards. Email threads with end of branch emails are detected through content analysis.
When you look at a thread, a red box to the left of a document title indicates the document is an end of branch email, that is, it is content-inclusive of earlier emails in the thread.
An email thread may contain multiple end of branch emails. This means the thread split off at some point in the conversation. The example below depicts this type of scenario.

Grayed out documents in Threads
Grayed out documents in threads preceded by a small icon 
can indicate different things:
- If the grayed out email precedes a non end of branch email, they are true duplicates.

If the grayed out email precedes an end of branch email, content is the same. It is still possible that the grayed out email is not a true duplicate.
Example
A recipient has stored a single email that is part of a thread on the file system. Both, the content of the recipient's email system and the file system are loaded into Axcelerate 5. Then the email copy stored on the file system has an MD5 hash which does not match the original email in the thread. Still, you can be sure that the end of branch email contains the complete content.
Grayed out Attachments in Threads
If an attachment is grayed out and preceded by a small icon , the attachment is either the duplicate of another attachment in the thread or it is the duplicate of another document that is not linked to the thread.
Example
The sender of an email has stored a document on the file system and then added it as an attachment to an email. If both are loaded into Axcelerate 5, the file system document is not part of the email, but it is still detected as a duplicate of the email attachment.
Any Attachments in Threads
Important: Attachments to any email in a thread should be reviewed to make a decision about the thread as a whole. Threading technology considers the content of the emails, not the attachments. It is always possible that different attachments were added or dropped as the chain evolved. In Associated Results view, an email with an attachment is flagged with a paperclip icon; click this icon and the family expands to display the attachments in the list.

Caution: The BCC field of an email is not taken into account during end of branch detection, that is, an email with a BCC may not have an end of branch red box indicator. To ensure BCC emails receive proper review, use the Communication > BCC Smart to determine whether any BCC emails exist in your review batch or results set.
