How Document Conversion Works
For most document types, conversion consists of these steps:
- Conversion to PDF.
- Conversion from PDF into the viewer format XDL.
- Transformation of the XDL into display files. Display files are SVG files plus JPG files for thumbnails that are sent to the browser for display, plus a text index, which is required for search within the Near Native or Redaction view.
There are several types of conversion to PDF:
- These file types are
converted using the print to PDF functionality of their native applications:
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Microsoft Word
- Chat XML conversion for chat formats.
- Any document type that cannot be converted to PDF using native conversion or chat XML conversion is converted using Oracle Outside In.
Native PDF, plain text, some vector image formats, and any raster image formats are converted directly into XDL.
Legacy conversion
When you use conversion functionality outside the Axcelerate 5 front end, the legacy conversion into TIFF images as used in Axcelerate Review & Analysis 4.8 is used.
Caution: When you convert into TIFF images, existing redactions are lost.
