Group Documents Within Batches
Note: If associated documents are included for batching, document grouping works differently. See: Include Associated Documents.
You have the option to group documents within review batches by the values of the Data Source, Custodian or Document Date fields.
When you opt to group documents, the system first sorts the document set by the selected field’s values, either alphabetically or by date, and then adds them to batches as specified by the remaining batch settings.
There can be several batches for the same field value and a single batch can contain documents for different field values.

A set contains 50 documents for a custodian A, 100 for a custodian B and 1 for custodian C. No inclusion of associated documents is enabled for batching. The batch size is configured as 100 documents per batch.
Result: 50 documents for custodian A and 50 for custodian B are contained in one batch. The remaining 50 documents for custodian B are contained in the second batch along with the 1 document for custodian C.
