Files Created and Stored by Bulk Conversion

The type of files created during conversion using bulk conversion, which includes conversion using preconversion rules, depends on the conversion reason selected.

Near Natives
If the native file is not already a PDF, it is converted to PDF. The PDF is then split into single pages, which is required for Near Native view, and text is extracted. The single-page PDFs are stored with the extracted text file in the document view storage. When a user opens a document in Near Native view, the system loads the PDF from the storage.
Redactions & Production > Limited
XDL files are created and stored in the document view storage.
Redactions & Production > All
XDL files are created and then transformed into display files. Display files are SVG files plus JPG files for thumbnails that are sent to the browser for display, plus a text index, which is required for searching within the view. The XDL and SVG files, the JPG files for thumbnails and the text index file are all stored in the document view storage.

Caution: Redactions & Production > All has high storage demands. The display files have up to five times the size of the original documents. To reduce storage, you can periodically remove the display files from documents that have completed review. See: Redaction View Storage Cleanup. Utilizing the Mark for redaction feature is another way to convert documents that require redaction. See: Mark for Redaction.
