Create Batches Using Ad Hoc Batching
To create review batches from the All Documents universe using ad hoc batching:
- Isolate the documents to be batched on the Analysis page and then select the documents in the Results list.
- In the toolbar of the Results list panel header, select .
- Configure the desired settings in the Batch Documents window:
Tip: You may need to expand the Template and Target area of the window to access some settings.
- Select the review workflow that will be used to batch documents. If a review workflow has not yet been added to the universe, select the field/field value that you wish to use for batching; this value will then be used to track review progress.
- Select the desired target review state, that is, the state the documents will have once they complete review.
- If desired and available, select a preconfigured batching template that will populate the remaining settings. You can also select a batching template and then modify select settings. This removes the link to the template, but the remaining settings are kept.

Note: Once a review workflow has been added to a universe, other review workflows can only be added via the Mission Control > Review Workflows page.

Batch Method
- Incremental Batching
- Limits the number of documents batched from a set.
- You can use this method to assess the quality of a set before continuing to batch documents from that set.
- Full batching, split by document count
- Divides a set into batches based on document count.
- Full batching, split by batch count
- Divides documents in a set equally into a specific number of batches.
- You can use this method when you have a static number of reviewers and you want each of them to review a batch.
Batch Options
Optionally select any or all of the available options. If you select an option, then also make selections in the related areas that appear at the bottom of the page.
- Group documents within batches
- Select whether to group documents by custodian, document date or data source.
- Include associated documents
- Use to pull family members, threads, duplicates, and/or near duplicates into the resulting review batches.
- Also used to keep the selected associated documents together in either the same batch or split between related batches. Split batches occur only if the adding of a document's associations will cause the batch to exceed the designated batch size by 50 percent (a _SPLIT suffix is then added to the batch name).
- Exclude previously batched documents
- Select one or more review state(s) and any documents previously batched to those review states will not be batched again.
- Exclude previously reviewed documents
- Select one or more review state(s) and documents previously reviewed for those review states will not be batched again.
Output
- Batch Naming
- Optionally change the batch name. If the batch name is set to {node name}, the batches will be named to match the review workflow. Batch names are automatically incremented with the batching date and a three digit counter.
- Batch Sizing
- The options that appear in this area depend on your Batch Method selection. If you selected Full Batching, enter either the number of batches to be created or the maximum number of documents per batch. If you selected Incremental batching, enter both.
Note: If you are an Administrator, All or Case Manager user, you will have the option to input a template name and save the batch settings.
- Click Create to start batch creation.
Tip: Select the Make Default check boxes to make your selections the default settings for future ad hoc batching jobs, as well as the target configurations for the All Documents universe.
Example
A default selection for Target Workflow in the ad hoc batching modal simultaneously sets the Target Workflow for the All Documents universe, upon which review statistics are based. To change default settings at a later time, expand the Template and Target area of the Batch Documents window and modify the settings. Case Managers and Power Users can also modify the default settings in the ad hoc modal by changing the target configurations of the All Documents universe on the page.
